ASIRT investigating injuries in RCMP incident

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating injuries to two men during a recent interaction on a highway west of Edmonton.

The men were occupants of a vehicle being sought by police after a shooting outside the Alberta Pipe Trades College in west Edmonton on Oct. 16, 2026.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) contacted the RCMP for assistance as a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle was seen heading toward RCMP jurisdiction in Parkland County, west of the city.

The EPS Air-1 helicopter monitored the car from the air, providing units on the ground with updates on the vehicle's location. The RCMP's Emergency Response Team (ERT) intercepted the vehicle near the Yellowhead Highway and Highway 16A.

ERT officers successfully disabled the vehicle and arrested three men at the scene. The Police Review Commission has directed ASIRT to investigate injuries to two of the men in the car as a Level 1 matter. Under the Police Act, Level 1 matters generally include incidents involving serious injury or death, or serious or sensitive allegations about an officer's actions.

The information in this release reflects what ASIRT investigators know at this early stage and what they can share while maintaining the integrity of the investigation.

ASIRT is part of the Police Review Commission, an independent, civilian-led agency. ASIRT investigates potential criminal offences involving police across Alberta, including cases where the actions of a police officer may have resulted in serious injury or death.
