ASIRT releases findings following EPS arrest in Edmonton

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has concluded an investigation into an Edmonton Police Service arrest that resulted in injury. ASIRT’s acting executive director has issued a written decision setting out the findings of the investigation.

The investigation examined the use of a less-lethal baton launcher during the Aug. 20, 2024 arrest of a person in Edmonton.

ASIRT operates within the Police Review Commission (PRC), an independent, civilian-led agency responsible for investigating criminal allegations and serious incidents involving police services in Alberta. ASIRT conducts independent and objective investigations into incidents resulting in death, serious injury, or potential criminal offences involving police services, as well as serious matters involving peace officers.
