ASIRT releases reports on two completed cases

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has finished two separate investigations involving police services. In each case, the acting executive director reviewed the evidence and issued a written report outlining the findings and conclusions.

The full reports are now publicly available:

Calgary Police Service – Feb. 12, 2025 | Report

ASIRT was directed to investigate an incident in which a police service dog bit a nine-year-old girl while police were chasing a suspect.

RCMP – Jan. 27, 2026 | Report

ASIRT was directed to investigate a fatal RCMP shooting outside Whitehorse, YT. The investigation was carried out under an agreement with the Yukon government.

ASIRT operates within the Police Review Commission (PRC), an independent, civilian-led agency responsible for investigating criminal allegations and serious incidents involving police services in Alberta. ASIRT conducts independent and objective investigations into incidents resulting in death, serious injury, or potential criminal offences involving police services, as well as serious matters involving peace officers.
