Update on fatal shooting involving Edmonton Police Service

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is continuing its investigation of a fatal shooting at a home in west Edmonton.

Just before 10 a.m. on Sept. 13, 2026,, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to a 911 report of domestic violence involving an active shooter at a home in the Donsdale neighbourhood. 

EPS officers arrived, contained the scene, and helped two women and an infant who had escaped the home.

The man came out of the home’s front door carrying a shotgun. Police shot the man after commands to drop the gun. Police used a service dog and tactical officers to take the man into custody because of his proximity to the shotgun. Tactical paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but he died at the scene.

One woman inside the home was treated in hospital for a gunshot wound and the infant sustained other physical injuries. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening and both were later released from hospital.

With ASIRT's investigation underway, no further information will be released at this time.
